Oaks Day beckons for back-to-back Bell

Trainer Danny O'Brien has flagged a Melbourne Cup week test for back-to-back Bendigo winner That Rings A Bell following her victory on Wednesday.

O'Brien has highlighted a 1700m BM70 fillies and mares event at Flemington on Oaks Day as the next start for his four-year-old charge.

"She has returned in super order this campaign and now that she has made it two from two, we will give her a chance during Cup week on Oaks Day," O'Brien said.

"She is a lovely horse that thrives at our Barwon Heads facility and now that she has matured we have hopes that she will continue her excellent progression."

The daughter of So You Think backed up her first-up Bendigo win over 1400m, with another win at the track this time over 1600m, having had four weeks between runs.

"She has shown she appreciates the time between runs, so we will give her plenty of time on 13th Beach in the next few weeks before giving her the chance up in grade," O'Brien said.

Sent out a $2.10 clear top pick, favourite backers had their hearts in their mouths around the turn when the mare was three-back the fence.

However they had no need to worry as champion jockey Damien Oliver was able to shoulder his way out on her and she proved too strong in the closing stages.

"There was plenty of pressure early and I elected to ride the horse rather than the race as she was travelling well down the back a pair or two further back than we wanted to be," Oliver said.

"Once we got out she knuckled down well late and made sure she got the job done."
