Now You Know his name

Now You Know started the daunting job of trying to claw out of the shadows of famous half-brother So You Think at Sportingbet Park (Sandown) on Wednesday.

The Danny O'Brien-trained colt, a son of Elusive City and So You Think's dam Triassic, registered his first city win when the $30,000 Patinack Farm Handicap (1400m).

It was the $260,000 New Zealand yearling purchase's second career win from seven starts and more than doubled his career prizemoney, to $34,988, and while that pales in comparison to So You Think's $7 million and two Cox Plates, O'Brien thinks he will soon add to it.

“He's a nice horse in his own right,” O'Brien said. “He's been a lot slower to develop, but he's on a good path.

“He improved strongly over the spring. On Oaks Day he really let the occasion get to him, he started favourite in a stakes race and ran his race before he got the gates, but he's come on again this prep and he's a horse that'll certainly stretch out to 2000 (metres).

“We think he's certainly a stakes-class horse in the making.”

Now You Know turned in an impressive front-running performance at his second start this campaign to score at Sportingbet Park.

After being pushed along early in the straight, Now You Know ($8 into $6) responded strongly to get home by a head from the charging Shanghai Warrior ($7) with Dany The Fox ($2.15 fav) working home into third placing.

Winning jockey Craig Williams said it was an encouraging effort given there is plenty of improvement to come.

“He's a still a big baby, he's still learning, but when I asked him to pick up he really extended good and he's beaten some nice horses,” the star jockey said.

“He doesn't have to lead. I think he'll be better off sitting off another horse but definitely his strength's going to over a lot longer.

“He hasn't got the form of his brother but he's a nice horse and hopefully they're going to have some fun with him in the autumn.”
