LITZDEEL SIGNALS 2026 CUP INTENTIONS WITH DEMOLITION
Queensland owner and breeder Paul Lanskey found himself in a familiar place on Melbourne Cup Day, which is the winner’s stall, when his mare Litzdeel bolted in the Australian Heritage Cup (2800m).
It was six years ago he was in the same position when Litzdeel’s older half-brother Vow And Declare won the Melbourne Cup.
"It's a great thrill winning any race on Melbourne Cup Day," Lanskey said.
He said he’s daring to dream of the 2026 Melbourne Cup with Litzdeel, who is also trained by Danny O’Brien, after the style of her victory.
Unfortunately, their dam Geblitz passed away a month ago.
“She did a terrific job. She had nine foals for seven winners,” Lanskey said.
He pointed out they had two more foals to race out of her, which are unraced three-year-old filly by Too Darn Hot called Kissattack and a yearling filly by Tiger Of Malay.
“She’s not a big four-year-old mare. She’s a November foal. Danny said let’s not push it too hard this spring. Next year will be the time,” Lanskey said.
“Blake Shinn rode her at Caulfield and said she has a lot of upside as well.”
