GROUP 1 FEELING NOW OAKS FAV

It would take 'a lot to go wrong' for Getta Good Feeling not to feature through Melbourne Cup Week, as Danny O'Brien eyes a Wakeful/VRC Oaks path for Saturday's Group 1 Thousand Guineas third placegetter.

The daughter of So You Think, who won the G2 Manifold Stakes in impressive style the start before, battled on superbly behind the quinella of Ole Dancer and Apocalyptic on Saturday, picking up a valuable elite-level placing and firming into $3.50 Oaks favouritism.

The gutsy run continues plans O'Brien has been concocting for some time now, right back to Getta Good Feeling's debut third placing over 1212 metres at Geelong in April.

"Our main mission with her has always been Melbourne Cup Week. We always knew she'd want some distance," O'Brien said post-race.

"We probably had that in mind after her first run in a maiden as a two-year-old, so we've been pretty focused on that.

"Really, everything's gone perfectly so far. She was great winning the Manifold and she was super today in the Group 1. We think she'll be really, really well suited out to 2000m and 2500m at Flemington."

Just A Journey, who finished second in the Ethereal Stakes earlier in the day at Caulfield, and Mating Call, who hung tough off a wide run and finished fifth in the Thousand Guineas, are on the next line of Oaks betting at $8, ahead of Ethereal winner Spicy Lu ($9).
