AS GOOD AS GOLD

In-form mare Stay Gold continued her excellent run with a strong win at Flemington on Saturday.

The full-sister to the highly-talented Iconoclasm, made it three wins from her past four starts and she is showing real promise as she makes her way through the grades.

It was back-to-back wins at headquarters with Jamie Kah in the saddle and the gun rider was full of praise for the five-year-old mare.

Stay Gold's win delivered a horror result to TAB.  The Danny O’Brien-trained galloper had attracted support during the week, firming from $8.50-$7.

On the day, Stay Gold ($7-$10) went back out after support for Picaroon ($6-$4.20) and Modern Millie ($7-$9-$6.50) among others.

Despite the drift, Stay Gold still went around as the second most popular runner in terms of money held.

The win was a relief for the stable after Somerset Maugham was an unlucky second in Race 3 and with It'sourtime having to settle for a close second in the day's feature event the Standish Handicap.
