ALLEN SURGES ROSEMONT MARE TO VICTORY

Jockey John Allen made the most of a rare opportunity to ride for Melbourne Cup winning trainer Danny O'Brien, by lifting Rosemont Stud homebred Thousand Wishes to victory at Sandown on Wednesday.

The Irish hoop was having just his fifth ride for the trainer, and was able to secure his first win with O'Brien as the four-year-old mare surged to the line to secure her second victory at start nine.

"When the horse came up on her outside she looked in trouble, but once I swapped the whip into my left hand she really dug in and her win on the line was quite soft in the end," Allen said.

The win was O'Brien's 19th in town for the season and has his stable just two winners behind Lindsay Park in the race for the Victorian Metro Premiership despite having had 200 less starters on city tracks in 2019/20 to date.
