WONDERDOWNUNDER SHEDS TAG

Wonderdownunder shed his maiden tag with an impressive victory at Mornington on Tuesday.

The win rewarded a string of consistent performances as the gelding had placed at his previous four starts before the deserved breakthrough result.

Prepared by Danny O’Brien and ridden by Billy Egan, the son of King’s Legacy led the field from a favourable draw and always seemed to be travelling well.

“He travelled nicely the whole way and I was always going well,” Egan said post-race.
“When I asked him, he let down well and was strong through the line.”

O’Brien;s Flemingtpon Foreman James Brownley was pleased to see the horse convert his consistent form into a win, noting the progression had been evident in recent starts.

“He’s been very honest this prep and deserved to win one,” Brownley said.

“He’s been racing well and it was just a matter of time.”

The victory suggests Wonderdownunder is beginning to put it all together, with the stable confident there is further upside as he gains experience.

After having six starts so far in his first preparation, Brownley expected the three-year-old gelding would likely head to the paddock for a well-earned break.

"I would expect he would furnish more in the time out and return a more finished article," he said.
