Well-related colt notches impressive maiden victory

Robbers Roost, half-brother to Group 1 winner Alamosa, scored his first victory in emphatic style at Cranbourne on Saturday.

"We have always had a good opinion of the horse so to see it come together for him on Saturday was pleasing," O'Brien said.

Andrew Mallyon took the three-year-old straight to the front in the 1400m maiden and made every post a winner with the colt winning by four lengths eased down.

"It felt like a track gallop as he crusied along out in front and he let down like a nice horse. It was an excellent win," Mallyon said.

O'Brien said he was in no rush with the son of Pins.

"It was an impressive performance, but it was only a Saturday maiden so we will not get ahead of ourselves and instead look to build his confidence by giving him the chance to run through his classes."
