VERSILIA POWERS TO FIRST-UP WIN

Cambridge Stud mare Versilia showed she is in store for a big Spring after waltzing to victory first-up at Geelong on Sunday.

The five-year-old sat outside the leader and controlled the tempo of the 1300m BM64 event, before surging clear upon straightening to claim the win.

The win was the daughter of Snitzel's third from eight career starts, and jockey Damian Lane was thrilled with her performance.

"She was very good. She always traveled well and it felt like we were going to win from a long way out," Lane said.
