THINXZO FIRES FIRST-UP
A change of tactics was the catalyst that saw Thinxzo exploded to a first-up victory on Thursday at Seymour.
The four-year-old usual tactics throughout his career had been up on speed, but a wide barrier saw the gelding ridden more conservatively in the 1200m BM62 event.
"When we saw he had drawn the outside gate we contemplated if we should be running or not. But in the end we decided we needed to get him started so we came with the plan to ride him conservative," Danny O'Brien's General Manager Matt Harrington said post race.
"So to see him produce that finish gives us options in his future racing,"
Jockey Damien Thornton followed the instructions to a tee as he elected to come back and settle near the tail of the field despite jumping well from the outside gate.
The win was the son of So You Think's third from 14 starts which also includes four placings.
"In previous preparations his best has been over 1400m and 1600m, but maybe we have unearthed something today and he showed an excellent turn of foot late."
