PREBBLE PEACH SEES SHAL EXCEED

Apprentice jockey Tom Prebble produced a gem at Benalla on Saturday for trainer Danny O'Brien which saw Shal Exceed breakthrough for victory at just his second race start.

The young hoop made use of his good barrier and made the favourite Chelsea Cube work across him before opting to give his gelding the box seat run.

"It worked out early, and I wanted to make sure the fav did some work which happened and then this bloke switched off perfectly," Prebble said post race.

"We were then able to switch across their heels at the top of the straight and he let down strongly to put the race away. It was an encouraging effort for his second trip to the races."

Trainer Danny O'Brien was full of praise for the young hoop.

"He still claims 2kg in the bush which great because he is a very nice youg rider. Today wasn't easy as the favourite did come out on him in the straight, but he kept his cool and was able balance the horse up and win the race. Tom has a nice future."
