PLAN B WORKS FOR TREPORTI

Treporti made amends for missing a start down the famed Flemington straight last week with victory at Bendigo's metro stand-alone meeting on Saturday.

As soon as the son of I Am Invincible didn't gain a run after being named first emergency last weekend trainer Danny O'Brien turned his attention to Saturday's 1300m BM70 event.

O'Brien's Racing Manager Jack Howard said they expected the four-year-old was a big chance in the Flemington race.

"We were looking forward to seeing him at Flemington last week, but we were just unlucky that there weren't any scratchings," Howard said.

"Looking at the calendar, we thought here over 1300 was a really good option. He has run over 1300 and 1400 previously and I think he's run second and fourth. So get today's result was excellent.  We think he can really stick out that trip, especially when there's a good tempo as well."

It was an excellent ride by Ben Allen, who stalked the hot speed on the favourite.

"It worked out good for us, he stepped away well and it was just a nice, strong gallop the whole way, which suited me." Allen said.

"I actually thought I was going to win a lot easier than I did. He had a good think about it, he's still learning this bloke, I know he's had a few preps, but I think it's still taking a while for the penny to drop and I think he can improve."

"I rode him his first start here and he gave me the feel of a quality horse. It's obviously taken him a little while to put it together, but he's on the way up, which is good."

It was the second year running O'Brien had a trained the winner in this restricted race on Bendigo's big day following on from Lina's Legend's triumph in 2022.
