ORDER OF COMMAND'S WANGOOM TRIUMPH

Order Of Command has lumped his massive weight to score a memorable victory in the Wangoom Handicap at Warrnambool on Wednesday.

Asked to carry a whopping 62 kilograms with weights raised 2kg due to coronavirus protocols, Order Of Command jumped from barrier 13 and was given a super rider by Damien Oliver, who produced the horse to win once the field had turned for home.

On his outside, Superhard looked certain to make it three wins on the day for local trainer Lindsey Smith when he swooped on the lead inside the final 200 metres, only for Order Of Command to defy his weight impost and fight back and win by a short neck from Superhard ($10).

Local galloper Inn Keeper ($15) enjoyed an inside run for the entire trip and wound up grabbing third in a blanket finish. For Oliver, he was able to tick off yet another sprint feature with his first win in the race at his eighth ride.

"It was a good effort," the champion jockey said. "The second horse (Superhard) got a good neck on him but I hadn't fully gone for him. It was a big effort to fight back with a big weight.

"On the turn, I knew I was going to be in the finish but when the second horse cruised up to me with a big pull in the weights, I was a little concerned but I was keeping a little in the locker for him.

"He hasn't let us down too many times. He's really genuine, a consistent horse and his record shows that. He's a winner and he's come back really well this prep. He loves soft ground as well."

The well-backed Hawker Hurricane ($5) was attempting to become a rare three-year-old to beat the older horses in the famed sprint but after finding the lead, he tired late into sixth place, just a length-and-a-half from the winner.
