O'BRIEN ROCKING IT FAR AND WIDE

Melbourne Cup winning trainer Danny O'Brien scored his first winner at Wimmera Racing track Murtoa on Saturday when Rock The Bar made a successful debut.

To be fair to O'Brien it was only his second runner to meet the starter at the western district racecourse and the Toronado three-year-old couldn't have been more impressive scoring the victory despite racing greenly.

It's been a hot start to the new season for O'Brien with his stable notching up 25 winners at a strike rate of 21.7% so far with his excellent placement being the key to the outstanding figures.

Jockey Liam Riordan has been the main beneficiary having ridden 7 winners for the trainer at a strike rate of 38.9%.

"The team is in excellent form and Danny has been prepared to be patient and find the right races for horses at tracks all around Victoria, which has ben great," Riordan said post-race after his victory on Rock The Bar.

"I have done a lot of work on this guy and I quite like the horse as he has a lot of ability! He won today purely on his class as he doesn't know what he is doing yet, so that is a positive sign for his future."
