Life's a beach for My Psychiatrist

It's not very often in Australia you see a horse start first-up beyond 2000m, let only win over the staying trip fresh, but that's exactly what trainer Danny O'Brien was able to achieve at Sandown on Wednesday with My Psychiatrist thanks to his private beachside training facility.

The former Sydney mare scored her first with the Victoria trainer in the 2100m BM78 fillies and mares event, and the fourth of her 20 start career and O'Brien paid tribute to his staff at his Thirteenth Beach Training Facility for having the mare spot on for her first-up assignment.

"She loves the beachside environment and my staff have done a wonderful job getting her in shape for her return," O'Brien said.

"Beach work and gallops on our uphill turf track that we have, have had her in super order for today and Ben Thompson put in a perfect ride for her to land the cash."

Jockey Ben Thompson settled her at the rear of the field and a genuine tempo allowed the five-year-old mare to travel kindly in the run.

"She always travelled for me, but at the 700m I choose to stay inside on her as I didn't think we could win coming around them," Thompson said.

"I knew we would need luck, but the gaps came and she was super strong to the line which was terrific."
