JAPANESE IMPORT WINS ON AUSSIE DEBUT

Trainer Danny O'Brien unveiled a horse to follow at Pakenham on Thursday night in the form of Japanese four-year-old mare Carrie.

Sent out hot favourite after a recent encouraging Werribee trial win despite having had four starts for no placings in Japan, Carrie had to overcome missing the start by lengths before proving too strong in the 1600m maiden event.

Jockey Damian Lane never panicked as he allowed the daughter of Manhattan Cafe to creep into the race out wide.

"She travelled really well throughout and her effort to dig deep as she was challenged late shows she is a horse that will be winning more races," Lane said.
