Grand campaigner scores 10th win in gutsy effort

Grand galloper Eraset scored his 10th career win, and second in a row, when he lunged late to dead-heat with Morant in the Sweetenham Summer Championship (1600m) at Caulfield today.

The Reset-gelding looked destined for the runners-up stall when Morant took a neck advantage in the home running, but the under the urgings of gun Irish apprentice Oisin Murphy, who is on loan to trainer Danny O'Brien, he lifted to score the result.

O'Brien said he was thrilled for the owners and the horse as he gives his all every time he steps out.

"He is much maligned by many, but we love him at the stable. If every horse in your stable could have the longevity he has had by racing in city and country feature races throughout their careers and win 10 times for almost $600,000 in prizemoney you would take them every day of the week," O'Brien said.

"With 50m to go he looked beaten, but he mustered the courage to dig deep under Oisin's riding and he has been unlucky to not win the race outright as he was in front before and after the line and he was giving the entire field 3kgs," added the Flemington trainer.

The seven-year-old is having an excellent preparation with two wins, a second and a third from his four runs.

"There has been two keys with this horse this prep. Firstly he has thrived coming off the longest spell of his career. We gave him two months off after his third in the Swan Hill Cup in July and it seems to have revitalised him.

"The second is how well the horse gets along with Oisin. He has ridden the horse perfectly in their four races together and I know Eraset will miss the kid when he heads back to the UK later this month."
