FILLY PRODUCES GEM

Gemstar continued her improvement in her second racing preparation with an excellent win at Werribee on Thursday.

The well-bred daughter of Zoustar dug deep late to haul in the leaders and score her first victory at start four in the 1100m fillies maiden on the card.

"It was a really good win by her as she had to really find to catch the leaders," winning rider Jamie Mott said post-race.

"She loved the heavy conditions and she really showed she took a lot for her first-up third.

"The penny has started to drop with her."

Gemstar is the first foal out of seven-time winning Pins mare Lake Como, who won three races down the Flemignton straight during her career.

Lake Como's second foal Lazzago won this year's Group 2 Sweet Embrace Stakes for two-year-old fillies at Randwick in February.
