BLINKERS LIGHT LONFIRE

A step up in trip and tinkering with his gear, led to Lonfire breaking through for his maiden win at start three on Thursday at Echuca.

The son of Lonhro enjoyed the 1600m trip and would have won by further if not for hitting the front so early according to winning jockey Jamie Mott

"He tanked up to them entering the straight and gave a really strong kick, however he had never been in front before and with the blinkers on I think he thought his job was done as he started to float," Mott said.

"But once he heard the other horse coming he lifted again so it was a nice win.

"He said enjoy racing over further so I would be expecting that he can go on with it now he has this under his belt," he said.
