Barnstorming finish secures black-type for Lady

Berkshire Lady gained valuable black-type for her pedigree with a barnstorming finish to claim third in the Tasmania Oaks at Launceston on Sunday.

After being held up and then taken off her course rounding the turn, the daughter of crack sire Star Witness, out of VRC Oaks and Wakeful placegetter Placement surged in the final furlong to gain the placing.

Jockey Daniel Moor said with any luck the three-year-old filly, pictured winning her last start over 2000m, would have tested the winner Pleasuring.

"She has run enormous, but to make sure she got into the race we had to hook wide around the turn and that has cost us challenging the winner," Moor said.

Training Danny O'Brien, who bred this filly having raced and owned the sire and the dam, was very happy with her performance.

"Getting black-type for any filly is critical to their breeding value and hopefully off the back of that strong performance she can keep improving and end up in some more nice races before the end of this season," O'Brien said.
