ALA GOES BOOM AT WODONGA

Trainer Danny O'Brien placed three-year-old filly Ala Moana to perfection at Wodonga on Sunday to break her maiden status.

The progressive type built on her debut second at Echuca on New Year's Eve as she proved too strong for her rivals in the 1300m Maiden event.

The daughter of Lean Mean Machine looks to have nice ability after she stalked the speed before taking over in the final furlong to score the win.

Jockey Liam Riordan said the win was full of merit.

"When we hit the lead she thought her job was done as she started to pull up, but I kept her mind on the job and she was good to the line," Riordan said.

"There is plenty of improvement to come as she learns what it is all about."
