AFFAIR OUT OF THE BLUE

Odds-on favourite Paris Affair overcame an torrid run in transit to score his maiden win in the final bound at Sale on Sunday.

After four successive second placings to start his career,  punters expected the 1700m maiden event to be the day the son of Tavistock saluted for the first time, but it appeared unlikely mid-race.

Paris Affair was slowly away and settled at the rear of the field, over-racing fiercely before jockey Damien Oliver commenced a long sustained run rounding the turn.

"He was fighting me early and not wanting to relax, and then when the leader gave a good kicked we had out work cut out for us,"  Oliver said.

"But he sprinted really well and his effort to run down the leader was excellent. He is a horse with a fair amount of ability and if he can work out his manners he can go to a good level."
