Magic Murphy out rides claim

It is just over 12 months since the 18-year-old apprentice celebrated the first winner of his career, and he has already wowed Australia, had a mount in the Derby as well as that incredible Ayr Gold Cup day four-timer, so he is fully expected to make the transition.

The victory came in the Noelle Reno Handicap when he finished strongly aboard the Joe Tuite-trained Presburg and pulled two-and-a-quarter lengths ahead of senior rider James Doyle and Vital Evidence.

After reaching the 95-winner mark, which included 13 in Australia, Murphy, seen winning here on Eraset at Flemington, was handed a congratulatory bottle of champagne.

"It's unbelievable," he said. "I've had the longest losing streak I've ever had, 31, and I've had six seconds.

"People say that you'll get there and I know it's only six days as my agent's been getting me a lot of rides but you do get a bit down.

"Joe does a really good job, I get on most of his, and it's a real team effort."

Tuite said: "Oisin's claim was 3lb for nothing. This horse never runs a bad one, and we'll go and have a day out at Glorious Goodwood with him in a handicap on the first day."

Cox Plate winning trainer Danny O'Brien was thrilled with Murphy's riding while in Australia and he hopes the young star returns to add to his 13 winners down under.

"He is one of the best kids I have seen ride. He has perfect balance, but his best trait is his will to win as he gets dirty on himself when the horses don't win," O'Brien said.

"If he returns to Melbourne, I won't hesitate putting him back on any of my horses."
